| A Brief History |
Worship services were held in a room at Del Tura Country Club on December 1, 1991. Small groups were started and a choir established. The meeting location changed, and soon there was a piece of land with a triple-wide on it that was declared as Good Shepherd United Methodist Church.
On March 8, 1992, 62 people became Charter Members. The minister was the Rev. Robert White. In December of that year in a procession, the church members moved from their temporary quarters to the present building. The decision was made at the time of designing the building that it was more important to have a multi-function Fellowship Hall that could double as a sanctuary and social hall than to have a single purpose sanctuary.
Good Shepherd is an active church with opportunities for worship, education, outreach, and fellowship. |
Activities for Interaction |
Most activities are scheduled with an eye to including time for fellowship. In addition to the weekly Adult Sunday School, Chancel Choir, and Shepherd Bell Choir, we have active Circles, United Methodist Women, United Methodist Men, as well as various committees that run specific interests of the church—all of which need people to make them work.
Once each year we have a Trash and Treasure Sale which brings many of our people together in fellowship to work for the success of the sale.
Circle of Friends
Meeting on Monday at 10:30 a.m., this sewing circle is dedicated to making lap quilts for nursing homes and other long-term care facilities, as well as making clothing and school bags for local children from needy families, and other one-time target projects. Sewing ability is not required to participate.
Joy Circle
A women's-only circle, Joy Circle, meets monthly on a Wednesday from November through April at the Church. All women are welcome.
The United Methodist Women is committed to mission projects at home, across the nation and around the world. Programs emphasize four mission ideals: Christian Personhood, Supportive Community, Christian Social Involvement, and Christian Global Concerns.
United Methodist Women support not only the women of our congregation, but women and children throughout the world. We support our church in worship, study, personal growth and action. Meetings are held on the second Monday of each month, October through May, at
1:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Occasionally, a light lunch is offered at noon with the meeting following.
All women are welcome!
United Methodist Men meet at 7:30 a.m. for breakfast on the second Wednesday of the month for Christian fellowship. We meet year-round.
We offer spiritual enrichment, informative and entertaining programs, and the opportunity to serve our church and community.
UMM sponsors monthly Saturday pancake breakfasts during the winter months and donates the profit to prepay principal on the mortgage on the church.
All men are welcome! |
Fellowship |
Fellowship is enjoyed after each Church Worship Service at His Place. We welcome everyone to stay for a cup of coffee and light refreshments and to meet a few people. We want to get to know you too.
Lunch Bunch is a purely social lunch group that meets on the third Wednesday of each month at 11:30 a.m. Open to all (singles and couples), this group meets in a near-by restaurant for fellowship and lunch together.
Monthly activities for fellowship are scheduled from October through April. This past season we had pancake breakfasts, a Halloween costume party, Christmas dinner, Gospel Choir music evening, Golf Outing, Strawberry Festival, and a concert featuring Larry Ford. |
